In order to properly
view chess diagrams on this website, the Good Companions (GC) fonts
must be installed on your
computer. Just use the simple process described below.
The Good Companions
wish to thank David L. Brown for
developing the new, HTML-friendly GC fonts, and
Dan Meinking
for
his programming work to create diagrams for this website.

Font installation
for Windows users:
[for newer Windows versions, steps 2-4 should not be necessary.]
1. Download both
fonts, and save them in your Fonts folder (c:\windows\fonts).
2. Click Start, [Settings,] Control Panel, Fonts.
3. Click File, Install New Font.
4. Locate and double-click "GC2004D", "GC2004X",
and "GC2004Y" fonts to install
them.
For further help with
installing the fonts, please contact
Dan Meinking.
If you are still unable to view diagrams, don't panic! You can always
use the
Forsythe - Edwards Notation to determine the diagrammed position.

Forsythe Conversion Utility Download:
This program is used to create all diagrams on this website. It will
translate Forsythe strings, in a plain-text input file, into GC font
diagrams in a rich-text (*.rtf) file. The program will also interpret
certain character sequences as chess figures and symbols. See the
readme.txt file for complete details. To download, right-click the
link below, then select 'Save Target As' to save it on your computer.
However, WinZip is required (or comparable zipping/unzipping
utility). Click
here to
download a FREE version of WinZip.
Note: When you open the zipped file (below), click "I Agree" when
prompted, then extract the files to your PC hard drive.
