Twomovers |
|
|
In our Twomovers section, you'll find "Mate in 2" problems
(stipulated as "#2") exclusively. In these "directmates in 2 moves",
White must find the only move which will force a checkmate of Black on
White's second move. Some of these contain "set/play" or "tries",
indicated by an asterisk (*) or check-mark (Í) respectively.
Misha Mladenovic,
StrateGems' Twomovers editor, has chosen the (4) examples below, providing
comments on each. All selections were originally published in SG. |

Solution: Click & hold left mouse button and highlight the area
below:
1.Qf3? (2.Qd3#)
1...Rg3/Bg3/c6 2.Bd5/Qc3/Sxd6#
but 1...Rb5!
1.Qb1!
(2.Qd3#)
1...Rg3/Bg3/c6/Sc2 2.Qb5/Rb4/Sb6/Qa2#
A
classic Bristol matrix in which try and key by wQ threaten 2.Qd3 but
result in distinct mates afer three line defenses. As all great art,
so simple once seen. |
